Jim has over 30 years experience in the construction industry and related services. He studied architecture in High School and helped his father frame a house at age 14. He worked as a hod-tender for a masonry contractor and a framing carpenter during his early days.
In 1996 he started Solar Home Improvement Co. focusing on replacement windows and later expanding into residential remodeling and additions. As the company grew he operated a custom wood shop building doors, windows and cabinetry. As a subcontractor and later as a superintendent, he worked on high-end residential and historical renovation projects including the Walker-McCarthey Mansion, the McCune Mansion, the Huntsman Residence and the Governor’s Mansion among others.
In 2006 Jim as was hired as a Project Manager and Superintendent for a commercial Design-Building contractor gaining experience in contract management, construction scheduling, risk management and jobsite safety. He also received his LEED AP accreditation during this time and participated in three LEED projects in Salt Lake City.
In 2008, at the beginning of the financial crisis in the United States, Jim and his wife relocated to Sao Paulo, Brazil and opened a LEED Certification consulting company. Construction of buildings under the LEED guidelines was huge in Brazil and Novva Solutions thrived. We focused on building Commissioning services and in seven years our team of architects and engineers commissioned 30 buildings including hospitals, commercial buildings and municipal buildings.
Brazil’s own financial crisis all but stopped new construction activity in the country and he returned to the U.S. in 2015 to work as a commercial Project Manager and Superintendent.
2019 marks Jim’s return to the residential construction market with the mission of working with our clients to turn their house into their “dream home”.
